Facts and calculations are kept apart, and every total must reconcile before release.
What is counted
1,068 matches and 3,028 match goals, 1930 to 2026.
Stored separately and never added to match or player goal totals.
Count in the match score, but not in the named player's career total.
Never converted to zero and never estimated.
For national-team history. The original name stays on the edition match.
Build-time checks
Generation fails if any of these is untrue, so a release cannot ship with numbers that disagree with their own source.

Advanced metrics
Expected goals, shot maps and event counts on the 1958, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1986, 1990, 2018 and 2022 pages are derived from StatsBomb Open Data under the StatsBomb Public Data User Agreement, covering 147 matches. This site computes the totals, races and shot summaries from the event feed; the calculations are its own and StatsBomb do not endorse them. Shootout penalties are excluded from expected goals, because they are not part of the match that was played.
Coverage is not uniform: 2018 and 2022 are complete at 64 matches each, while the older tournaments are partial samples — 1970 has six of its 32 matches, 1990 just one of 52. Where a match has no event data the page simply does not show an expected-goals section. The 2026 tournament is not covered by StatsBomb. Its pages carry the measures ESPN records — possession, attempts, passing and duels — and no expected-goals figure is shown for them rather than one being estimated.
